History

Charles Klatskin founded the Charles Klatskin Company in 1966. The company was a pioneer in the development of the Meadowlands market and expanded throughout Northern and Central New Jersey to become one of the premier real estate companies in the region. During the next three decades, the firm continued growing to meet the needs of the New Jersey business community.

As the 21st century approached, the company's clients demanded the same level of service they enjoyed locally on a national basis. In addition, they were requesting complimentary services such as management, construction and logistics along with the brokerage services.

In order to address the new challenges facing the company, a talented group of individuals was brought into the firm. First was the introduction of David Knee, who at the time was managing the New Jersey office of a national and international corporate services firm. Along with Tony Scaro, Klatskin's Chief Operating Officer, the three worked toward the concept of building a dream team of brokers and adding a wide array of services unmatched in the New Jersey Real Estate Market. Soon afterward, Charles Fern and Joel Lubin, the two most dominant brokers in the central New Jersey market, were recruited and tapped to open the firm's Edison office. Three years later, Robert Kossar joined the firm, whose diverse background in brokerage, development and financial analysis made him a key component to this executive group. In 2004, Chris Johnson, a leader in the New Jersey construction industry was brought on to lead the construction services team.

With the senior management team in place, the company moved quickly to find a national platform - a brand and infrastructure that would service the needs of the firm's clients elsewhere in the United States. Lee & Associates was the ideal choice. Already the leading real estate services firm in California, with over 250 brokers in the state, the company decided to expand to the East and become a national firm. Today, with over 25 offices and over 460 brokers, the firm is fast becoming one of the largest national real estate organizations in the Country. Lee & Associates' philosophy of the top brokers being principals in the firm matched perfectly with Klatskin's own approach. Lee had been searching for a strong partner in New Jersey, which it considered the most important market on the eastern seaboard. In 2005, the new entity was announced and the company was re-branded as Lee & Klatskin Associates.

Today, the firm, which employs over 50 people, offers a wide-range of commercial real estate services including brokerage, supply chain & logistics services, management, construction and consulting. The brokerage team, which is the cornerstone of the company, was ranked #1 in New Jersey overall leasing by Costar Group for the third consecutive year. The company has managed over 16 million square feet of properties for its clients. The construction group is extremely active in the office, industrial and retail sectors. Recently, the company launched its own supply chain and logistics consulting practice to help companies align their supply chain with their real estate holdings.
